Which Acqua di Giò Is Best? 7 Editions Ranked
Acqua di Giò Parfum is my top pick. Its smoky twist on the fresh aquatic DNA reminds me of Profumo and smells like a summer night on the beach. Profondo EDP takes second for its brighter citrus and mineral character in high summer heat, followed by EDP Intense for playful fruity sweetness and casual wear. Elixir brings a different leather and floral direction, while EDP is my aromatic, slightly green spring choice. Profondo Parfum is enjoyable but less convincing to me, and the original EDT is mainly a nostalgia purchase.

Acqua di Giò Parfum
Parfum is my top pick. These days, I think of it as the current take on Acqua di Giò Profumo: the two smell very similar to me, with that smoky twist on the fresh aquatic DNA. The way I describe it is a summer night on the beach. It's one of the best designer purchases you can make in my opinion.
Editorial wear estimate. Skin, weather and application affect performance.

Scent, wear & buying advice
Scent profile
Fresh aquatic character with a smoky twist is what makes Parfum stand out to me. It reminds me closely of Profumo, and a summer night on the beach is still the best way I can describe the smell.
Performance
The dedicated Acqua di Giò longevity guide supplies Parfum's wear-time estimate. Its first-place position here comes from the smoky aquatic character and how much I enjoy the scent, rather than ranking the line by hours alone.
Versatility
Summer nights are the picture Parfum brings to mind for me. I would compare Profondo EDP for a brighter, younger direction that I particularly enjoy in high summer heat.
Value
Parfum is one of the best designer purchases in my opinion, and the first bottle I would choose from this line. The combination of smoky depth and familiar aquatic freshness is what makes it worth buying for me.

Giorgio Armani
Acqua Di Gio Profondo EDP
Profondo EDP takes second as the brighter, younger brother of Parfum. The citrus and mineral notes give it a character I haven't quite experienced elsewhere. This is a great choice for high summer heat, and the version I would compare first if Parfum's smoky direction isn't what you're looking for.
Editorial wear estimate. Skin, weather and application affect performance.
Choose it if
Choose Profondo EDP if you want a brighter, younger-feeling Acqua di Giò with citrus and mineral character for high summer heat.

Scent, wear & buying advice
Scent profile
Citrus and mineral notes give Profondo EDP its brighter character. The combination feels unique to me, and it's what makes this version such a strong choice for high summer heat.
Performance
Our Acqua di Giò longevity guide supplies Profondo EDP's wear-time estimate. I place it second here for the citrus and mineral character and how well I enjoy it in high summer heat.
Versatility
High summer heat is where Profondo EDP makes the most sense for me. Parfum is the smokier direction I would compare for that summer-night feeling, while EDP is my more aromatic spring choice.
Value
Profondo EDP is the second bottle I would put my money toward in this line. Its citrus and mineral character gives it a clear reason to choose it alongside Parfum, especially for the hottest part of summer.

Giorgio Armani
Acqua di Gio Eau de Parfum Intense
EDP Intense might be a surprising third-place pick, but the added playfulness is hard to beat. The fruity sweetness comes through strongly, which is why I understand the comparisons with Absolu. It's a great casual choice, and the one I would try if you want a more playful side of Acqua di Giò.
Editorial wear estimate. Skin, weather and application affect performance.
Choose it if
Try EDP Intense if you want the playful fruity sweetness that earns it third place for me, particularly for casual wear.
Consider another if
Compare Profondo EDP for a brighter citrus and mineral direction, or Parfum if you prefer a smoky twist on aquatic freshness.

Scent profile
Fruity sweetness gives EDP Intense the added playfulness I enjoy. I understand why people compare it with Absolu, though I would try it for its own take on the familiar Acqua di Giò character.
Performance
The separate Acqua di Giò longevity guide provides EDP Intense's wear-time estimate. My third-place ranking reflects its playful fruity sweetness and casual appeal, rather than treating the word Intense as a performance claim.
Versatility
Casual wear is where EDP Intense makes the most sense for me. I would compare Profondo EDP for the citrus and mineral direction I enjoy in high summer heat, or Parfum for its smoky aquatic feel.
Value
EDP Intense earns its place near the top because the fruity sweetness adds something I enjoy to the line. I would try it before the lower-ranked versions if a playful casual scent is what you're after.

Giorgio Armani
Acqua di Giò Elixir
Elixir takes fourth, and it's probably less heavy than the name might lead you to expect. I get a surprising leather and floral direction that feels different but refreshing. It may be the biggest departure in the current lineup to me, while still keeping enough of the familiar Acqua di Giò smell.
Editorial wear estimate. Skin, weather and application affect performance.
Choose it if
Try Elixir if you want the leather and floral direction I find different but refreshing, with a familiar Acqua di Giò character still present.
Consider another if
Start with Parfum or Profondo EDP if their smoky aquatic or brighter citrus and mineral directions sound closer to what you want.

Scent, wear & buying advice
Scent profile
The leather and floral direction is what surprises me about Elixir. I don't find it as heavy as you might expect, and it still keeps a familiar Acqua di Giò character underneath that different approach.
Performance
Our dedicated Acqua di Giò longevity guide supplies Elixir's wear-time estimate. My impression that it feels less heavy than expected describes the scent experience, rather than replacing that separate performance estimate.
Versatility
Elixir is the one I would compare when you want something different from the current lineup. The leather and floral direction changes the experience while keeping a recognizable Acqua di Giò character for me.
Value
I would consider Elixir for its different leather and floral direction, rather than buying it simply because of the name. Parfum, Profondo EDP and EDP Intense are the three I would choose first overall.

Acqua Di Gio EDP
EDP takes fifth. I've always thought of it as a flanker with a strong Essenza influence, although the two aren't identical. It takes a more aromatic, slightly green approach that I find very refreshing. I especially like it for spring, before the sweltering humidity of summer arrives.
Editorial wear estimate. Skin, weather and application affect performance.
Choose it if
Choose EDP if you want the aromatic, slightly green freshness I particularly enjoy for spring, especially if the Essenza comparison interests you.
Consider another if
Compare Profondo EDP for the citrus and mineral direction I enjoy in high summer heat, or EDP Intense if you'd rather have playful fruity sweetness.

Scent, wear & buying advice
Scent profile
The more aromatic, slightly green approach is what stands out to me. It brings Essenza to mind without smelling identical, and the overall effect feels very refreshing.
Performance
The existing Acqua di Giò longevity guide supplies EDP's wear-time estimate. Its place here comes from the aromatic, slightly green scent and the spring use I enjoy, rather than a direct performance comparison with Essenza.
Versatility
Spring is where EDP particularly makes sense to me, before the sweltering humidity of summer. I would compare Profondo EDP when the high summer heat arrives and I want that brighter citrus and mineral character.
Value
EDP is worth trying if the aromatic, slightly green direction is what you want from Acqua di Giò. I still prefer the four versions above it overall, with Parfum being my first choice for a bottle.
06 Our overall ranking
Giorgio Armani
Acqua di Giò Profondo Parfum
Profondo Parfum comes in sixth. It's enjoyable and still very marine-oriented, but the patchouli twist doesn't work as well for me as it does in Parfum or Profumo. That keeps it from being one of my favorites, even though I can still appreciate the direction it takes.
Editorial wear estimate. Skin, weather and application affect performance.
Choose it if
Try Profondo Parfum if you want to compare its marine character and patchouli twist with the other Acqua di Giò versions.
Consider another if
Start with Parfum if you share my preference for the way its smoky aquatic character comes together, or Profondo EDP for brighter citrus and mineral freshness.

Scent, wear & buying advice
Scent profile
I still get a very marine-oriented scent, with a patchouli twist. I enjoy it, but the way that combination comes together doesn't appeal to me as much as Parfum or Profumo.
Performance
The dedicated Acqua di Giò longevity guide supplies Profondo Parfum's wear-time estimate. Its sixth-place position here reflects how the marine and patchouli combination works for me, rather than judging it by longevity alone.
Versatility
I would compare Profondo Parfum with Profondo EDP for its brighter citrus and mineral character, and with Parfum for the smoky aquatic balance I prefer overall.
Value
Profondo Parfum is enjoyable, but it isn't one of my favorites in the line. I would put my money toward Parfum or Profondo EDP first unless the marine and patchouli direction is specifically what you want to try.

Acqua di Giò EDT
The original EDT finishes last for me. At this point, nostalgia is the main reason I would buy it. I think the current flankers do better in almost every way, so I would put my money toward one of those first. Parfum is my starting point, with Profondo EDP close behind for a brighter direction.
Editorial wear estimate. Skin, weather and application affect performance.
Choose it if
Try EDT if you specifically want to revisit the original Acqua di Giò character for nostalgia.
Consider another if
Choose one of the current flankers first if nostalgia isn't your reason for buying. Parfum is my top pick, followed by Profondo EDP.

Scent, wear & buying advice
Scent profile
The familiar original Acqua di Giò character is the reason to revisit EDT for me. It's a nostalgia choice in my ranking, with the current flankers giving me stronger reasons to buy a bottle.
Performance
Our Acqua di Giò longevity guide supplies the original EDT's wear-time estimate. My last-place position here reflects the greater value I find in the current flankers overall, with nostalgia being the reason I would still revisit EDT.
Versatility
I would try EDT to revisit the original rather than make it my first choice from the current lineup. Parfum and Profondo EDP are the versions I would compare first for the directions I prefer today.
Value
Nostalgia is the main reason I would buy EDT. Otherwise, I think the current flankers offer more, starting with Parfum for my favorite overall and Profondo EDP for brighter citrus and mineral freshness.
The final word
Which one should you buy?
Parfum is the bottle I would buy first. The smoky aquatic character, close Profumo resemblance and summer-night-on-the-beach feeling make it one of the best designer purchases in my opinion. Profondo EDP is my second choice for high summer heat, while EDP Intense brings the playful fruity sweetness I enjoy for casual wear. Elixir is the different leather and floral direction to compare, and EDP is the slightly green aromatic option I especially like for spring. Profondo Parfum doesn't work as well for me as Parfum, while the original EDT is the one I would revisit mainly for nostalgia.
