Why does Vantage get compared with Decision?
Amouage Decision Eau de Parfum is the name to know here. Look through the two brands' descriptions and the connection makes sense: citrus and spice up front, incense in the middle, then woods underneath. Reviewers have made the comparison too.
The interesting question for me is how well it captures Decision's incense character once the opening settles. That's the part I'd want to compare on skin before calling it a replacement.
Where the notes line up
Both descriptions open with bergamot, cardamom and pink pepper. It's a useful starting point if you like a fresh opening with some spice rather than a big hit of sweetness. The same notes can land differently in two blends, though, so I'd pay attention to how that spice feels in the first few minutes.
The middle is where the comparison gets more interesting. Both brands list incense, myrrh and juniper. That gives you something specific to look for when sampling: the balance between the resinous incense and the fresher, aromatic side of the fragrance.
Cedarwood and patchouli appear in both drydowns. Decision also lists vanilla, while Vantage's description finishes with those two woods. I'd look for any difference in warmth and sweetness as they settle. For the full descriptions, see Rayhaan's Vantage page and Amouage's Decision page.
Which should you buy?
For the value comparison, I'm using $395 as Decision's reference price. The retailer links above are the place to check current purchase prices. If Decision's spicy incense profile caught your attention but the price held you back, Vantage is worth a look.
If you already own Decision, I'd sample Vantage before buying another full bottle. The question is whether it gives you a version of that scent you'll enjoy wearing, or whether you'd keep reaching for the Amouage anyway. If you haven't tried either, a Decision sample gives you a useful reference point.
Check the edition before buying
The comparison here is with Decision Eau de Parfum. Decision 42 is a separate edition. Check the name on the listing so you're comparing the right bottle, and use the Vantage product page to browse its retailer options.
